Lowered Threshold for Foreign Talent Recruitment
Master's and Doctoral Studies Now Counted as Experience
Samsung has lowered the hiring threshold to secure foreign talent with research and development (R&D) capabilities.
Starting from the 24th, Samsung began the '2025 First Half Foreign Experienced Employee Recruitment' process. In addition to local overseas recruitment, Samsung has been conducting open recruitment for foreigners domestically since 2023, and this year it has expanded to 10 affiliates.
The change in this year's recruitment is the lowered threshold. Initially, the preferred condition was limited to those with 'at least 2 years of relevant experience after obtaining a bachelor's degree,' but now the 'period of master's or doctoral studies' is also recognized as experience. The participating affiliates have also increased. Recruitment was previously conducted only at Samsung Electronics, Samsung Display, and Samsung SDI, but now 10 companies including Samsung Electro-Mechanics, Samsung Biologics, Samsung C&T, and Samsung Bioepis will participate.
To facilitate smooth internal communication among foreign employees, candidates must have at least level 3 in the Test of Proficiency in Korean (TOPIK). The document screening and interview processes are also conducted in Korean.
Samsung is expanding hiring opportunities for foreign STEM graduate students because securing excellent technical talent in advanced technology fields has become a critical task. As global competition for technological supremacy in fields such as semiconductors intensifies, governments and companies worldwide are fiercely competing to secure talent. The Samsung affiliates newly participating in this recruitment are responsible for industries such as next-generation materials and bio.
Securing talent is also a principle that Samsung Electronics Chairman Lee Jae-yong has long emphasized. Shortly after his inauguration as chairman, he stated at a meeting with executives, "The most important values since our founding have been talent and technology," and added, "We must nurture talent capable of changing the world regardless of gender or nationality."
