The blooming period of flowering trees this spring is expected to be later than last year. The blooming of flowering trees is predicted to start from mid-next month in Jeju Island and expand nationwide by early April.
The Korea Forest Service announced the "2025 Spring Flowering Tree Blooming Prediction Map" with this information on the 24th.
According to the Korea Forest Service, the average temperature this winter (from last December to this month) was -1.8°C, which is 2.5°C lower than last year's average temperature (0.7°C). Unlike last winter, which maintained normal levels, this year’s relatively lower temperatures are expected to delay the overall blooming period of flowering trees.
Considering this, the blooming of flowering trees this year is expected to start from mid-next month in Jeju Island, pass through the southern regions, and expand nationwide around early April.
The predicted full bloom dates by species are: Cornus officinalis on the 26th of next month, azaleas on April 4th, and cherry trees on April 6th.
The Korea Forest Service observes plant phenological events (such as blooming, sprouting, autumn foliage, and leaf fall) in cooperation with nine major public arboretums nationwide, including the National Arboretum, based on mountainous weather information from the National Institute of Forest Science.
Based on this, they annually publish blooming and autumn foliage prediction maps.
Lim Sang-seop, Administrator of the Korea Forest Service, stated, “Spring flowering tree bloom predictions serve as an important indicator for the public to prepare for seasonal changes and for scientifically analyzing changes in forest ecosystems. The Korea Forest Service will continue to provide more accurate information to the public through ongoing research and precise observations, and strive to develop strategic measures to respond to climate change through forests.”
