Korean Church Federation "Impeachment, Respect Constitutional Court Ruling Regardless of Decision"

The Korea Christian Federation, the largest Christian coalition organization in Korea, stated regarding the impeachment of President Yoon Seok-yeol that "we will respect the Constitutional Court's ruling regardless of the decision." This is interpreted as drawing a line against some Christian groups' refusal to accept impeachment ahead of the Constitutional Court's final verdict.

On the 23rd, the Korea Christian Federation held the "106th Anniversary of the March 1st Movement Korean Church Commemorative Worship Service" at Hansomang Church in Paju, Gyeonggi Province, and issued a statement containing this message. The Federation pointed out, "While it cannot be denied that the Korean church and its leaders bear responsibility for the Republic of Korea being stigmatized as a conflict republic due to discord among conservatives and progressives, ruling and opposition parties, regions and classes, generations, and genders, the greatest responsibility lies with political leaders."

They continued, "We hope that political leaders from both ruling and opposition parties will abandon their partisan calculations aimed at division and confrontation, and take the lead in restoring a unified Republic of Korea through dialogue and compromise."

Additionally, they urged, "The government, courts, prosecution, and National Assembly should not seek to dominate with selfish power but exercise their respective authorities while fulfilling democratic duties and responsibilities, so that this chaos triggered by emergency martial law can be swiftly resolved."

Furthermore, the Korea Christian Federation stated, "We do not support extreme conservatives or progressives, and we will respect whatever decision the Constitutional Court makes after careful legal consideration," adding, "We ask all churches to pray that those in authority make decisions that are not shameful and that benefit the country and its people."

The event was held ahead of the 106th anniversary of the March 1st Movement, hosted by the Korea Christian Federation. Attendees included Rev. Iyob, co-chairman of the Federation, Rev. Park Byung-seon, honorary chairman Rev. Ryu Young-mo, and congregants.
