19 Buildings Including Fab to Be Built on 1.42 Million Square Meters in Yongin Semiconductor Cluster
Lee Sang-il, Mayor of Yongin: "We Will Strive to Minimize Inconvenience for Citizens During Construction"
The first semiconductor production line (Fab) of SK Hynix in the Wonsam-myeon area of Cheoin-gu, Yongin-si, Gyeonggi-do has received building approval.
Yongin City announced on the 23rd that it has approved the construction of SK Hynix's first Fab Phase 1 within the Yongin Semiconductor Cluster General Industrial Complex. Accordingly, SK Hynix will begin construction of the production line next month. The target operation date for the production line is the first half of 2027.

The approved building permit covers a total floor area of 1,422,468㎡ on a site of 1,975,284㎡. The buildings include one Fab building of 570,000㎡, one 20-story support facility building, and 17 other buildings such as warehouses and wastewater treatment plants, totaling 19 buildings.
With the semiconductor production line construction entering full swing, the construction market in the Yongin area is also expected to become active. Previously, in April last year, Yongin City signed a business agreement with SK Hynix to promote early construction of the production line and revitalize the local construction industry.
According to the agreement, SK Hynix plans to actively utilize local Yongin companies when deploying a large-scale construction workforce, materials, and equipment after starting the production line, as part of regional cooperation.
To this end, SK Hynix submitted a plan to utilize local resources worth 450 billion KRW to the city, and on the 14th, SK Ecoplant, the construction company for the production line, held the "Yongin Semiconductor Cluster Phase 1 Equipment Usage Briefing" to inform local construction equipment companies about the construction schedule, types of equipment to be used, and criteria for participating companies.
According to the city, a total of 3 million person-days will be invested over the two years of construction for the Phase 1 production line. The city expects that utilizing local Yongin companies for the construction will greatly help revitalize the local economy. As workers spend on meals, lodging, and leisure, it is also expected to benefit the local commercial district.
Lee Sang-il, Mayor of Yongin, said, "We will provide the necessary administrative support to ensure the production line operates as planned," adding, "We will pay special attention to resolving traffic inconveniences that may arise during construction and ensure citizens can travel safely."
