The legal team of President Yoon Seok-yeol, who has been indicted and detained on charges of leading a rebellion, submitted a statement the day after the court's detention cancellation hearing, expressing that "the illegal detention must be resolved promptly."
According to the legal community on the 22nd, President Yoon's defense team submitted a statement to the Seoul Central District Court Criminal Division 25 (Chief Judge Ji Gui-yeon) explaining the necessity of canceling the detention the previous day.
President Yoon's side stated, "It included supplementary and complementary content to what was explained during the previous hearing."
However, they reported that concerns about a government vacuum if the Constitutional Court dismisses the impeachment were not included in this statement.
Earlier, during the detention cancellation hearing held on the 20th, President Yoon's side argued that the prosecution indicted him on the 26th, after the legally permitted detention period (which ended on the 25th of last month), claiming this constituted illegal detention.
At that time, the court listened to the arguments of both President Yoon's side and the prosecution, then requested both parties to submit written opinions within ten days.
