"48% of iPhone Users Previously Used Android"

Counterpoint Research Survey
"Impact on Samsung Electronics and Google"

A survey revealed that one out of every two iPhone users was previously an Android smartphone user, such as Samsung Galaxy. This indicates a switch from Android smartphones to iPhones. The companies most affected by this trend were identified as Samsung Electronics and Google.

Counterpoint Research announced on the 21st that it conducted a smartphone survey targeting 4,000 iPhone users across four key markets for Apple: the United States, China, the United Kingdom, and India, yielding these results. According to the survey, 48% of iPhone users responded that they had previously used Android phones. Counterpoint Research analyzed that "as users increasingly switch from high-end Android devices to iOS (iPhone operating system), Samsung and Google are experiencing the greatest losses." They also predicted that this transition would continue at the current rate over the next two years.

Additionally, iPhone 'Pro' users were found to replace their smartphones faster than users of other iPhone models. Pro model users kept their devices for an average of 2.75 years, whereas other model users used theirs for an average of 3.15 years.

Regarding the phenomenon of users choosing the most expensive Pro model replacing their smartphones more frequently, Counterpoint attributed this to "Pro model users often being early adopters." Among Pro model users, 45% identified themselves as 'Innovators,' and 25% saw themselves as 'Early Adopters.' These users tend to purchase products aligned with Apple's new product launch dates and are the first to buy the Pro model when a new iPhone is released. In marketing, consumer purchasing speed is classified in the order of ▲Innovator ▲Early Adopter ▲Early Majority ▲Late Majority ▲Laggard.

iPhone loyal customers were more likely to upgrade to the Pro model. This was interpreted as a demand to access Apple's latest features more quickly and to gain a deeper understanding of Apple. The premiumization of the smartphone market was cited as the biggest factor driving the increase in Apple's annual iPhone sales share.

According to Counterpoint Research's smartphone sales tracker, last year Apple's global smartphone sales ranked in the following order: iPhone 15, iPhone 15 Pro Max, iPhone 15 Pro, iPhone 16 Pro Max, iPhone 14, and iPhone 16 Pro.
