Chinese DeepSeek surpasses 110 million cumulative downloads within one month of launch

The cumulative number of downloads of DeepSeek, a generative artificial intelligence (AI) model developed in China, has surpassed 100 million in about a month since its release.


On the 21st, China’s Daily Economic News cited data analysis platform QuestMobile, reporting that "the DeepSeek app, released on the Apple App Store and Android application markets on the 11th of last month, exceeded 110 million cumulative downloads as of the 9th."

The weekly active users reached up to 97 million at one point after its release. The weekly downloads of the DeepSeek app were around 285,000 during the initial release period from the 13th to the 19th of last month.


However, from the 20th to the 26th of last month, when the inference model R1 was released, downloads surged to 2.26 million. The following week, from the 27th of last month to the 2nd of this month, downloads skyrocketed to 63 million. On the 27th of last month, the app also ranked first in the App Store’s free app download rankings, surpassing OpenAI’s ChatGPT.
