The current completion rate of Dongbin Bridge stands at 68%, and efforts are being made to accelerate the construction schedule to complete the project this year instead of the originally planned June 2026.
During his visit, Mayor Lee Gang-deok received a briefing on the construction status and emphasized prioritizing citizen safety by implementing traffic control and safety measures. He also urged active cooperation between relevant departments and the construction company to ensure the safe completion of the girder installation work.
Mayor Lee encouraged the personnel involved, saying, “We will spare no support for the early opening of Dongbin Bridge. Please do your best to expedite the construction to improve traffic convenience for citizens and contribute to revitalizing the local economy.”
This girder installation is a key phase in the construction of Dongbin Bridge. Following the completion of the girder installation at the Songdo Pier starting point on the 20th, on the 21st, the girders at the Hanggu-dong endpoint were successfully installed using one 500-ton and one 300-ton crane each.
Traffic control was implemented during the girder installation period to ensure safety, with additional safety personnel deployed during large crane operations and measures taken to block access within the work radius to prevent accidents.
With the installation of major bridge structures, it is expected that the construction speed of Dongbin Bridge will gain momentum.
Mayor Lee stated, “We will continue the construction while minimizing inconvenience to citizens and prioritizing safety. Once Dongbin Bridge opens, it is expected to become a key infrastructure for urban traffic as well as a representative tourist attraction of Pohang.”
The official name of the currently tentatively named ‘Dongbin Bridge’ is planned to be finalized through a public contest around May. The city intends to select a bridge name reflecting citizens’ opinions to embody the region’s history and identity and to increase public interest and affection.
