Freshmen's Parents Experience Campus Life Indirectly
UNIST (President Jongrae Park) held the 2025 academic year entrance ceremony at the gymnasium at 2 p.m. on the 21st.
At this event, a total of 498 undergraduate freshmen, including 468 from the science and engineering fields and 30 from the business field, took their first steps at UNIST. The freshmen representatives who took the oath were students Changjin Baek and Eojin Kim.
The entrance ceremony began with a variety of events prepared by campus members to welcome the new family. The Freshmen Student Council welcomed the new students and their families with food truck meals.
This year’s entrance ceremony featured congratulatory performances by the orchestra club ‘UNISTRA’ and the faculty vocal ensemble. Vice President for Academic Affairs Seongcheol Bae presented a special stage jointly with the cheering club ‘UNIQUE.’
In his entrance ceremony speech, President Jongrae Park encouraged, “UNIST pioneers do not follow familiar paths, do not fear uncertainty, and are trailblazers who open new roads. Freshmen, you will become key players who change the world by cultivating science, technology, and creative thinking.”
UNIST added to the enjoyment by giving donors the university mascot doll ‘Yooni’ and setting up a photo booth where people could take pictures with ‘Yooni’ dressed in academic regalia.
About 1,300 parents and family members cheered for the freshmen’s new start. In particular, a surprise congratulatory video prepared by the freshmen’s parents was screened, and message cards were delivered, conveying great emotion.
After the event, parents had the opportunity to understand and indirectly experience their children’s school life through a campus tour.
Joara Cho, team leader of the Freshmen Department, which organized the entrance ceremony, said, “We sincerely welcome your first day at UNIST. The Freshmen Department and Freshmen Student Council will work together so that you can devote yourselves to your studies and research with a spirit of challenge and pioneering as UNIST pioneers.”
