The KOSPI index closed slightly higher, supported by net buying from institutions and individuals.
On the 21st, the KOSPI index ended trading at 2,654.58, up 0.52 points (0.02%) from the previous day. The trading volume was 434.83 million shares, and the trading value was tentatively estimated at 11.0296 trillion won.
By investor type, institutions and individuals net bought 117.8 billion won and 2.2 billion won respectively, while foreigners net sold 218.7 billion won. Program trading saw net selling of 7.1 billion won in arbitrage trading and 81.8 billion won in non-arbitrage trading.
Sector performance was mixed. The metals sector rose 1.83%, real estate 1.22%, transportation equipment 0.65%, transportation and warehousing 0.61%, IT services 0.49%, chemicals 0.35%, distribution 0.28%, pharmaceuticals 0.15%, and manufacturing 0.09%. Conversely, the insurance sector fell 2.97%, securities -1.23%, telecommunications -1.21%, paper and wood -0.66%, entertainment and culture -0.55%, medical precision -0.52%, and general services -0.41%.
Among the top market capitalization stocks, more rose than fell. LG Energy Solution increased by 0.53%, Samsung Biologics 0.7%, Hyundai Motor 1.48%, Kia 0.11%, NAVER 2.26%, Hanwha Aerospace 2.33%, Shinhan Financial Group 0.74%, Meritz Financial Group 1.63%, and POSCO Holdings 5.03%. On the other hand, Samsung Electronics fell 0.34%, SK Hynix -1.18%, Celltrion -1.22%, and HD Hyundai Heavy Industries -1.47%.
There were 510 advancing stocks, 371 declining stocks, and 60 stocks remained unchanged. No stocks hit the upper or lower price limits.
The KOSDAQ index showed strong performance. It closed at 774.65, up 6.38 points (0.83%) from the previous day. By investor type, foreigners net bought 115.4 billion won, while institutions and individuals net sold 7.8 billion won and 88.6 billion won respectively.
Most of the top market capitalization stocks rose. Alteogen increased by 3.7%, EcoPro BM 1.33%, EcoPro 6.16%, Rainbow Robotics 2.28%, Ligand Chem Bio 3.99%, Hugel 7.3%, Classys 5.76%, Lino Industrial 0.66%, and Pharma Research 4.35%. Conversely, HLB fell 3.2%, Samchundang Pharmaceutical -0.55%, JYP Ent. -0.24%, and Kolon TissueGene -8.9%.
Meanwhile, in the Seoul foreign exchange market, the won/dollar exchange rate is trading at 1,434.7 won, down 1.3 won from the previous day.
