Jang Mihee Appointed as New Chairperson of BIFAN Organizing Committee
Director Jeong Jiyoung Named Honorary Chairperson
The Bucheon International Fantastic Film Festival (BIFAN) announced on the 21st that it has appointed Jang Mi-hee, Honorary Professor at Myongji College, as the new Chairperson of the Organizing Committee.
Chairperson Jang is an actress who has appeared in ninety-two films, dramas, and plays since starting with the 1976 film Seongchunhyangjeon. Her notable works include the films Winter Woman, Stars' Hometown 2, Flowers of the Equator, Deep and Blue Night, Death Song, and the dramas Mother's River, Cheongsilhongsil, Six Siblings, Mom is Angry, and Life is Beautiful. She also served as a professor in the Department of Theater and Film at Myongji College and as the director of the Institute of Arts and Physical Education, dedicating herself to nurturing future talents.
Her connection with BIFAN is not new. She served as Vice Chairperson of the Organizing Committee for two years starting in 2017. Additionally, she has contributed to the development of Korean cinema by serving as a member of the Film Rating Subcommittee of the Korea Media Rating Board, Vice Chairperson of the Korean Film Council, Chairperson of the Independent Art Film Recognition Subcommittee, member of the Korean Film Council, and member of the Knowledge Information Resource Management Committee under the Ministry of Science and ICT.
Chairperson Jang expressed her inauguration remarks, saying, "In this era of transformation, I will strive to achieve BIFAN's tradition and vision of leading and supporting creative imagination and sharing it." This year, BIFAN will be held from July 3 to 13 across Bucheon City.
Meanwhile, Director Jeong Ji-young, who led BIFAN for nine years, was appointed Honorary Chairperson. He plans to focus on filming My Name Is, a movie about the Jeju 4.3 Incident, for the time being.
