131 Universities Raise Tuition for the New Semester
This year, 131 universities, nearly 70% of four-year universities, have raised their tuition fees for the new semester. Among private universities in the Seoul metropolitan area, 9 out of 10 schools increased their tuition.
The Korea Council of Private University Presidents (KCPUP) announced the "Final Results of the 2025 Academic Year University Tuition Status Survey" on the 21st, containing these details.
According to the results as of the previous day, 131 out of 190 universities (68.9%) raised their tuition fees.
Among 151 private universities, 120 schools (79.5%) joined the ranks of those increasing tuition.
By region, 58 out of 64 private universities in the Seoul metropolitan area (90.6%) and 62 out of 87 universities outside the metropolitan area (71.3%) raised tuition. Among national and public universities, 11 schools (28.2%) increased tuition fees.
Universities that froze tuition fees in line with government policy totaled 53 (27.9%), including 25 private and 28 national/public universities, while 6 universities' tuition increase status was not confirmed.
Among the 131 universities that raised tuition, the most common increase rate was 4.00% to 4.99% (43.5%), followed by 5.00% to 5.49% (41.0%).
There were also 9 universities that raised tuition up to the legal maximum increase rate of 5.49% this year.
