Enhancing the Brand Value of Jjokpa
and Increasing Farm Income
The Chungnam Agricultural Research and Extension Services has launched a research association for hydroponic cultivation of Jjokpa (Korean green onions) to enhance technology for the realization of sustainable smart agriculture.
On the morning of the 21st at 10 a.m., the research and extension services held the inauguration ceremony for the 'Chungcheongnam-do Jjokpa Hydroponic Cultivation Research Association' in the main auditorium, attended by about 70 people including hydroponic Jjokpa growers and related officials.
The association plans to focus its activities on improving the completeness of Jjokpa hydroponic cultivation technology, which is gaining attention as a new alternative in the face of declining agricultural productivity and worsening soil conditions due to recent climate changes.
The association aims to solve on-site difficulties through information exchange and communication among members, while also increasing the brand value of Jjokpa produced and shipped from Chungnam to boost farm income.
Kim Deokjung, the inaugural president, said, "We were able to increase the number of annual harvests from two to six compared to open-field cultivation," and added, "We will strive to further develop and disseminate hydroponic cultivation technology through the activities of the association."
An official from the research and extension services stated, "We will provide step-by-step professional technical education to farmers to promote the spread of Jjokpa hydroponic cultivation," and added, "This year, we will expand support to 2.677 billion won for seven types of support, including technical support for Jjokpa nutrient solution cultivation systems and the expansion of nutrient solution cultivation technology for facility vegetables."
Meanwhile, Jjokpa hydroponic cultivation is known to enable cultivation regardless of external environmental conditions, create a convenient working environment to reduce labor, alleviate continuous cropping obstacles, and significantly improve productivity by reducing the frequency of pest and disease control.
