The West Sea Regional Coast Guard Headquarters (Chief Lee Myungjun) announced on the 21st that it will conduct safety inspections on its five affiliated VTS (Vessel Traffic Service Centers) ? Mokpo, Gunsan, Wando, and two in Yeosu ? until the 6th of next month, in preparation for the spring thaw season.

This inspection aims to prevent facility damage and safety accidents that may occur due to ground weakening and other issues caused by rising temperatures during the thaw. The plan is to proactively address potential safety hazards in structures such as steel towers, retaining walls, and fences, as well as in equipment like radars, antennas, and emergency power facilities.

In addition, the headquarters will check whether external service providers comply with safety management and training requirements related to the Serious Accidents Punishment Act, and will immediately address any deficiencies that can be corrected on site.

An official from the West Sea Regional Coast Guard Headquarters stated, "VTS is responsible for the safety of passing vessels by monitoring ships and preventing maritime accidents. We will strive to provide optimal traffic control services through thorough safety inspections of our facilities."
