The High-ranking Officials' Crime Investigation Unit (HGOI) has conducted a search and seizure of the office of Won Cheon-hee, Director of the Defense Intelligence Headquarters, who is suspected of discussing martial law with former Minister of National Defense Kim Yong-hyun and others before the declaration of martial law on December 3.
On the 21st, the HGOI stated, "We are conducting a search and seizure of Director Won's office in connection with the martial law case." Director Won is suspected of having discussed martial law in advance during a meeting with former Minister Kim and former Intelligence Commander Moon Sang-ho on December 2 last year.
However, Director Won testified before the National Assembly on December 10 last year, stating, "I have never received any reports related to martial law." The Ministry of National Defense also issued a statement, acknowledging that "it is true that the Intelligence Commander reported on December 2 with the Defense Intelligence Headquarters Director present," but explained that "those who attended said there was no discussion related to martial law."
The HGOI is continuing its investigation into the remaining cases after completing the investigation into President Yoon Seok-yeol on charges of leading a rebellion and forwarding the case to the prosecution on the 23rd of last month.
