Stable Operation Confirmed in Both Cold Waves and Heatwaves
Hyosung Heavy Industries Demonstrates 1,400-Hour Continuous Test
Hyosung Heavy Industries announced on the 21st that its carbon-free hydrogen engine generator has successfully operated stably even under extreme weather conditions such as cold waves and heatwaves. Since last year, Hyosung Heavy Industries has been focusing on the ‘hydrogen engine power generation business’ to minimize carbon emissions.
The company’s 1MW hydrogen engine generator completed a 1,400-hour continuous operation test during the winter season. Stable engine output and efficiency were also confirmed during summer operation, ensuring operational reliability even in cold waves and heatwaves. Hyosung Heavy Industries’ hydrogen engine generator is a product that can generate electricity using 100% hydrogen and has been installed and operating at the Ulsan Hyosung Chemical Yongyeon Plant since April last year.

Hyosung Heavy Industries was the first in the world to commercialize the hydrogen engine generator. It passed safety inspections by the Korea Gas Safety Corporation and the Korea Electrical Safety Corporation, receiving approval for commercial operation. Although several domestic and international companies are developing hydrogen engine generators, most remain in the testing phase, making Hyosung Heavy Industries the only company in the world to have succeeded in demonstration operation.
A company official stated, "Having secured the operational reliability of the hydrogen engine generator, a core technology for achieving carbon neutrality, throughout all four seasons, we will further advance hydrogen combustion technology to strengthen our competitiveness in the eco-friendly energy market."
In December last year, Hyosung Heavy Industries signed a ‘joint promotion agreement for the hydrogen engine power generation business’ with Korea South-East Power Co., Ltd., establishing a strategic partnership for the future carbon-free power industry. The two companies are jointly promoting hydrogen engine and hydrogen power generation projects utilizing clean hydrogen production and utilization demonstration projects.
