Samsung Biologics and Samsung Bioepis announced on the 21st that they have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with Sungkyunkwan University and Korea University to foster talent in the bio R&D (research and development) sector.
Through this agreement, the two companies plan to establish a 'Bio Talent Development Track' under the College of Biotechnology at Sungkyunkwan University and the College of Life Sciences at Korea University to expand the bio industry base and proactively nurture outstanding talent.
The signing ceremony, attended by key representatives from each university and the companies, was held over two days at each school. On the 19th, the ceremony at Sungkyunkwan University was attended by Dean Jae-Yeol Cho and Department Head Kyung-Kyu Kim. The ceremony at Korea University on the following day, the 20th, was attended by Dean Yong-Sung Cho and Vice Dean Dae-Sung Kim. From Samsung, Kyu-Ho Lee, Head of the People Center at Samsung Biologics, and Dae-Sung Kang, Head of the HR Team at Samsung Bioepis, participated in the ceremony.
Samsung Biologics and Samsung Bioepis plan to select outstanding scholarship students among senior students at each university to train master's level personnel in the bio R&D field. Scholarship recipients will receive tuition and financial aid for all semesters and will be offered employment opportunities immediately upon graduation.

Jae-Yeol Cho, Dean of the College of Biotechnology at Sungkyunkwan University, said, "Sungkyunkwan University continuously strengthens its education and research environment to keep pace with the development of the bio industry. We will continue to work hard to nurture excellent and innovative talent and drive the growth of the bio industry through cooperation with Samsung Biologics and Samsung Bioepis."
Yong-Sung Cho, Dean of the College of Life Sciences at Korea University, stated, "Through cooperation with Samsung Biologics and Samsung Bioepis, outstanding students will be able to gain high-level research experience in a stable environment and grow into leaders of the future bio industry. We will use this opportunity to further develop industry-academia cooperation programs and become a hub for nurturing talent that will lead Korea's bio industry."
Kyu-Ho Lee, Head of the People Center at Samsung Biologics, said, "The record-breaking achievements and steady growth Samsung Biologics has achieved so far have been driven by the efforts and innovation of outstanding talent. We will actively support talent development for the advancement of the domestic bio industry in cooperation with Sungkyunkwan University and Korea University."
Meanwhile, Samsung Biologics and Samsung Bioepis have been continuously expanding industry-academia cooperation with universities that have bio-related departments, starting with Seoul National University in February last year and Yonsei University in August, supporting the development of domestic bio talent.
