Sold on Some Second-Hand Platforms
at Over 50 Percent Above Retail Price
NVIDIA's latest graphics card series, the 'RXT 50', is experiencing a 'shortage' due to high demand. Some products are being sold at twice the retail price on certain second-hand trading platforms.
According to reports from 'Yonhap News' and others on the 19th, the top model of the RTX 50 series, the RTX 5090, is sold out at major domestic shopping malls and is currently unavailable for purchase. Although some stock of the RTX 5080 remains, demand has surged, driving prices higher.
NVIDIA set the reference (standard model) price for the RTX 5080 at $999 (approximately 1.8 million KRW, based on NVIDIA's announced exchange rate of 1,800 KRW), but the domestic price is reported to be in the range of 2.2 to 2.8 million KRW. This means prices have increased by up to about 55% during distribution.
On some second-hand trading platforms, sellers offering the RTX 5090 at a premium price have been spotted, sparking controversy. They posted listings claiming to sell the RTX 5090 for prices between 5 to 6 million KRW, while the graphics card was initially released domestically at shopping malls for around 3.6 million KRW on the first day. This amounts to an attempt to resell at prices more than 50% above the average retail price.
Meanwhile, the RTX 50 series has sparked a craze both domestically and internationally, with stock selling out immediately upon release. Sales of the RTX 5090 and RTX 5080 began at 11 PM on the 30th of last month, but most units sold out within about 10 to 20 minutes.

Earlier, NVIDIA revealed the official prices of the RTX 50 series at CES 2025, the world's largest electronics exhibition. Despite domestic consumer prices being about 30% higher than the official prices at that time, the popularity has not waned.
The RTX 50 series was developed based on NVIDIA's next-generation graphics processing unit (GPU) chipset, the 'Blackwell RTX' architecture. It is well known for introducing the latest version of the AI-powered image enhancement technology, Deep Learning Super Sampling (DLSS), called 'DLSS 4'. Previously, a photo showing customers camping overnight to buy the RTX 50 at an electronics store in the U.S. was posted on Reddit, the largest Western online community, drawing significant attention.
