The ‘WFPL 8th Local Government Innovation Evaluation Awards Ceremony’ was held with the purpose of discovering key figures dedicated to paving the way for a new leap through a paradigm shift in local autonomy. It was co-hosted by the Local Government Innovation Evaluation Committee (GEC) affiliated with the World Federation of Young Leaders (WFPL), the International Policy Institute (IPI), and the World Press Association (WPA).
Chairman Jo Seong-dae received high evaluations in the local government innovation evaluation for policies considerate of socially vulnerable groups, securing health rights to improve the quality of life of local residents, strengthening local government competitiveness, and revitalizing the regional economy.
Since his election as chairman last year, Jo’s first step was visiting branches of the Korean Senior Citizens Association in 16 towns and townships within the jurisdiction, practicing the protection and consideration of the elderly’s rights by improving senior centers’ operations and actualizing activity expenses. He has also devoted himself to securing citizens’ health rights by attracting the Gyeonggi Public Medical Center to Namyangju City and led efforts to abolish various regulations in the Han River watershed water source protection area, which has been in place for over 50 years, to guarantee the basic rights of local residents.
Additionally, he proposed key ordinances for the city’s sustainable development and Gyeonggi Province’s revival, such as the ordinance to revitalize local construction projects in Namyangju and to foster young farmers. He was recognized for his contribution to revitalizing the city’s regional economy by leading a promotional popup event for Namyangju’s attractions at Jamsil Station following the extension and opening of the Byeollae Line, which earned him this grand prize.
Chairman Jo Seong-dae said, “I am very pleased to receive the WFPL Grand Prize on behalf of the 21 members of the Namyangju City Council. In the year of Eulsa, I will lead a new leap forward for Namyangju City based on change and innovation.”
