Three Central Asians Arrested for Abducting, Assaulting, and Extorting Korean Residents Abroad

The Cheongju Cheongwon Police Station announced on the 19th that they have arrested three Central Asians in their 20s, including Mr. A, on charges of special confinement, special robbery, and joint assault, and are pursuing the whereabouts of one accomplice.

Most of them were found to be illegal immigrants. On December 2nd last year, at around 3:16 a.m., they assaulted a compatriot, Mr. B (in his 20s), on a street in Seowon-gu, Cheongju, forcibly put him into a car, moved to Jincheon-gun, and then repeatedly assaulted him in a secluded area.

They are also accused of threatening Mr. B with a weapon, confiscating his mobile phone, and threatening him to pay 1.5 million won monthly as protection money.

Mr. A and his group had stolen copper wire from a construction site and asked Mr. B to lend them a vehicle to sell it, but when Mr. B refused and their plan failed, they committed the crime as described.

Initially, two acquaintances of Mr. B, who had followed Mr. B to meet Mr. A and his group and witnessed the kidnapping, chased the group’s vehicle and were also assaulted together in Jincheon, according to the investigation.

The police are focusing on apprehending the accomplice and plan to hand over Mr. A and the other three suspects to the prosecution soon.
