Daiso Expands into Side Jobs
Daiso Stock Helper Positions Gain Popularity
Work Just 2 Hours a Day... Less Time Pressure
"Working just 2 hours a day doesn’t interfere with my main job at all."
Among 'N-jobbers' who juggle multiple side jobs alongside their main work, part-time jobs at Daiso are gaining attention. From packaging tasks that can be easily done at home to assisting with unloading delivery items as stock helpers, Daiso offers a variety of side job options. In particular, stock helper positions are popular among office workers seeking a second job because they typically involve short shifts of about 2 hours during early morning or nighttime hours.
Lee Eui-na (30, pseudonym), who runs a workshop in Yongin, Gyeonggi Province, worked as a Daiso stock helper for three months starting in September last year. She worked six days a week, excluding Sundays, for just 2 hours each day starting at 6:50 a.m. Lee said, "Since my workshop operates from noon until late at night, I can’t take on a typical side job," adding, "The advantage of being a Daiso stock helper is that it doesn’t interfere with my main job. After trying it, I found it helped build my stamina and cover living expenses, so I’m satisfied." Lee is currently taking a break from side jobs due to an arm injury sustained while teaching at her workshop.
The main duties of a Daiso stock helper involve moving and organizing delivery items. Specifically, when a delivery vehicle arrives, tasks include ▲unloading items ▲sorting and organizing items ▲disposing of empty boxes ▲final cleaning. Typically, helpers work six days a week, and hourly wages vary by location. They can earn anywhere from the minimum wage (10,030 KRW) up to 16,000 KRW per hour. Based on 2 hours a day, this guarantees a monthly income of over 500,000 KRW. Overtime work is paid at 1.5 times the hourly rate, allowing for additional earnings.
The popularity of stock helper jobs as side work is due to the short working hours and guaranteed steady income. While other popular side jobs like working at Coupang logistics centers also allow short-term work, their standard shift is 8 hours a day, which is a significant time commitment.
The advantage of Daiso stock helper jobs?short hours combined with regular income?makes them a good choice for people like Lee who have other main jobs. In fact, searching for 'Daiso stock helper' on the job platform Albamon shows over 150 listings, many of which explicitly welcome applicants with second jobs. One store in Cheongju, Chungbuk, stated in its job posting, "The work involves unloading and simply sorting product boxes," adding, "With just 2 hours of work per day, it’s suitable for those seeking a second job." It further noted, "College students, job seekers, and office workers can earn pocket money with high satisfaction."
However, not all feedback is positive. Due to the nature of the work, which involves carrying and organizing items, it can be physically demanding. Lee explained, "The reason I hesitate to recommend stock helper jobs to others is that the intensity of the work is subjective," adding, "Some people think 2 hours is easy but quit quickly because the work is harder than expected." She emphasized, "You need to consider whether your physical condition is good, whether you can manage it alongside your main job, and whether you can work six days a week without fail."
Another popular side job at Daiso is packaging work through subcontractors. Packaging can be done from home, making it easy to adjust to personal schedules. For this reason, it is favored by self-employed individuals and students as a side job. The main tasks involve packing products and attaching labels. Although the work is simple, it requires repetition and the workload can vary depending on order volume, so attention to detail, concentration, and responsibility are essential.
