First Completion Cases of Aged School Space Restructuring by Seoul Metropolitan Office of Education
Seoul Metropolitan Office of Education's first aged school space restructuring project, Seoul Dunchon Elementary School and Seoul Wirye Elementary School, will reopen in March.
Each school has 49 classes (including 1 special class), accommodating 1,489 students at Dunchon Elementary and 1,456 students at Wirye Elementary, and will open its doors on the 1st of next month.
On the 19th, Gangdong Songpa Office of Education announced that it will conduct an on-site inspection with the Ministry of Education on the 20th in preparation for the March reopening.
The reconstruction of Dunchon Elementary and Wirye Elementary is the first project undertaken as part of the space restructuring initiative for aged schools, following the redevelopment of the largest domestic Dunchon Jugong Apartments (currently Olympic Park Foret On), targeting schools that have been in use for over 40 years since completion.
The aged school space restructuring project, formerly known as the 'Green Smart Project,' involves rebuilding or remodeling aged school facilities to transform them into future-oriented schools capable of innovative teaching and learning in the digital transformation era.
During this preliminary inspection, Gangdong Songpa Office of Education plans to review the conditions for reopening with the Seoul Metropolitan Office of Education and the Ministry of Education and discuss support measures to ensure a smooth reopening.
Cho Hyun-seok, Superintendent of Gangdong Songpa Office of Education, said, "We hope the cases of Dunchon Elementary and Wirye Elementary will serve as models for the stable operation of aged school space restructuring projects to be carried out in the future."
