US Prosecutors Resign in Protest Against Trump's 'Biden Targeted Investigation'

Prosecutors Resign in Succession After Launch of Second Trump Administration
Washington D.C. Chief Criminal Prosecutor Also Submits Resignation

A senior prosecutor who has overseen criminal cases in Washington D.C., the capital of the United States, expressed his intention to resign, citing improper demands from the second Trump administration targeting the former Joe Biden administration for unfair investigations.

US Prosecutors Resign in Protest Against Trump's 'Biden Targeted Investigation' President Donald Trump of the United States and Pam Bondi, Attorney General of the U.S. Department of Justice.

According to local media on the 18th (local time), Dennis Chung, the chief criminal prosecutor at the Washington D.C. Prosecutor's Office, sent a letter to Acting U.S. Attorney Ed Martin on the same day, stating that he had received inappropriate demands related to investigations and submitted his resignation.

Prosecutor Chung claimed that the Department of Justice instructed him to investigate a government contract made during the Biden administration and to freeze the assets of the contract awardee. He said he was following orders from the Office of the Deputy Attorney General but stated that these orders were not supported by evidence.

Chung said, "I have been proud to serve the federal Department of Justice and this work for 24 years. Many administrations have come and gone during my tenure, but I have always been guided by my oath to support and defend the Constitution."

Since the start of the second Trump administration, prosecutors have been resigning one after another, claiming unfair investigative orders. Earlier, when the Department of Justice ordered the dismissal of federal charges against New York Mayor Eric Adams, seven prosecutors resigned, stating they could not follow improper orders.

Mayor Adams was indicted last September on five charges including bribery. He is accused of receiving gifts such as free or discounted airline tickets and hotel accommodations from Turkish government officials and others, and exerting influence to approve the use of a new building for the Turkish Consulate General in New York. Although Mayor Adams is a member of the Democratic Party, he has criticized the Biden administration on illegal immigration issues and, after the presidential election, visited former President Trump's Mar-a-Lago resort in Florida, where Trump's residence is located, showing recent 'pro-Trump' behavior.
