“I didn’t know it would be canceled immediately,” says apology
A repeat student who was accepted to a university in Seoul suddenly had his admission canceled without his knowledge, causing a baffling situation.
On the 18th, Yonhap News reported the story of A (19). He recently passed the regular admission at Soongsil University and was working part-time when he received a text message from the school stating that the "tuition refund process has been completed."
When he checked the school’s website, there was actually a certificate proving that he had given up his admission. A, who had never applied for a tuition refund or admission withdrawal, immediately contacted the school to explain the situation and also reported it to the police.
The next day, A received a direct message on Instagram from B, who claimed to be a student who sat next to him at the cram school. B confessed that while they were studying together at the boarding cram school, he had obtained A’s personal information such as date of birth and exam number, logged into the school website, and pressed the "university admission cancellation" button.
B contacted A saying, “I think I accidentally pressed the university admission cancellation button for you,” and “I didn’t know it would be canceled immediately, so I have been painfully reflecting on it for a whole day.” A had never had any conflict or even exchanged a word with B at the cram school. A told Yonhap News, “I cannot understand how someone could make such a mistake.”
Fortunately, A was able to attend the university he had been looking forward to. Soongsil University reviewed the case internally and re-registered A on the same day.
