Police Book Incheon City Council Member Without Detention for Drunk Driving
An Incheon city council member who was caught driving under the influence two months ago was again caught by the police for drinking and driving.
Yonhap News reported on the 18th, citing the Incheon Western Police Station, that Council Member A of the Incheon City Council was booked on charges of drunk driving under the Road Traffic Act.
Council Member A, affiliated with the Incheon City Council, is accused of driving a vehicle while intoxicated in the underground parking lot of an apartment in Seo-gu, Incheon, around 1:14 a.m. on the 16th, and colliding with a parked car.
It was found that after hitting the car, Council Member A was sleeping inside his own vehicle. The blood alcohol concentration was investigated to be above 0.08%, the level for license cancellation.
The police responded to a report stating, "There is a person who hit a parked car and is sleeping inside the vehicle," and confirmed Council Member A's intoxication. Council Member A reportedly stated to the police, "I do not remember whether I came with a designated driver or drove myself." The police are also expected to investigate whether he was driving under the influence outside the parking lot.
The police plan to investigate the specific circumstances of the incident based on CCTV footage at the scene. Previously, Council Member A was handed over to the prosecution on December 24 of last year for driving under the influence in the same apartment underground parking lot. At that time, Council Member A's blood alcohol concentration was also found to be above 0.08%, the license cancellation level.
At that time, Council Member A reportedly called a designated driver after drinking and arrived at the underground parking lot, but was found to have driven after the driver left. The police transferred the case to the prosecution last month, and the prosecution indicted Council Member A without detention on the 18th.
