Fostering a Shared Sense of Responsibility for Childbirth and Childcare
Busan Gijang-gun (Governor Jeong Jong-bok) operates the 'Couple Empathy Pregnancy Experience Program' year-round at the Gijang-gun Health Center.
This program is designed for pregnant women and their spouses to experience the physical changes of pregnancy together and to foster a shared sense of responsibility for childbirth and childcare.
The program targets families with pregnant women over 28 weeks in the Gijang-gun area and is conducted by renting pregnancy simulation suits for 3 nights and 4 days. Participants wear the pregnancy simulation suits and perform everyday activities such as washing dishes, climbing stairs, putting on socks, and sitting on the floor to fold laundry, allowing them to directly experience the physical discomforts of pregnancy. After the experience, participants who write reviews on their personal SNS and share them on the official Gijang-gun SNS will receive a small souvenir.
However, the rental of the simulation suits includes hot packs to raise basal body temperature, and safety rules must be followed, such as using the designated attachment areas to avoid direct contact with the skin.
A representative from the Gijang-gun Health Center said, “Through this program, we expect couples to experience the weight of pregnancy together and deepen their understanding and consideration for each other. We will continue to strive to create a healthy family culture through various pregnancy and childbirth support projects.”
Applications for the program can be made by phone on a first-come, first-served basis at the Maternal and Child Health Office of the Jeonggwan Health Branch.
