Gwangyang City to Create Policies Based on Citizens' Voices

Full-scale Implementation of "Saengsaeng Interview"
...10 Sessions Planned for This Year

Gwangyang City in Jeollanam-do announced that it will actively implement the "Saengsaeng Interview" initiative, which involves directly listening to citizens' opinions and reflecting them in policy.

The "Saengsaeng Interview" serves as a communication channel designed to capture the real-life issues and demands of citizens that are often missed by traditional surveys or simple opinion collection methods, and to incorporate these insights into policy.

As Gwangyang City's policies, which were promoted based on communication with citizens last year, were selected as best practices in Jeollanam-do's policy evaluation, the city plans to further increase citizen participation in the policy-making process this year and develop effective policies that citizens can tangibly experience.

This year, a total of 10 interviews will be conducted. The first interview will take place at 7 p.m. on February 19 in the Kumho Library conference room, with 10 new employees from POSCO Gwangyang Steelworks and public officials from the Gwangyang City Gamdong Era Promotion Team in attendance.

The theme of the meeting is "Support for the Settlement of Incoming Workers from Outside the City and Revitalization of Youth Play Culture." Participants will discuss the difficulties faced by incoming workers, including ▲housing issues ▲transportation convenience ▲improvement of living infrastructure ▲formation of local networks.

The city will also gather opinions on the vision that young people have for Gwangyang and ways to revitalize youth play culture through this interview.

Even after the first meeting, interviews will continue to collect a wide range of citizen opinions. In March, interviews will focus on "Problems and Support Measures for Local Startups," and in April, the topic will be "Improvement Plans for Companion Animal Living Environments." The city plans to discuss various topics, including the discovery of new welfare initiatives, and implement policies that reflect citizens' opinions.

Jung Seungjae, head of the Gamdong Era Promotion Team, said, "As policies that reflected citizens' opinions were selected as best practices last year, we will further strengthen communication with citizens this year to implement highly effective policies. Through 10 interviews throughout the year, we will collect diverse opinions and translate them into concrete policies."

Meanwhile, last year Gwangyang City also established a lifetime welfare platform covering all life stages from prenatal to old age, based on citizens' opinions, and achieved the integration of 370 welfare projects. The city has supported dual-income families by providing high school online lecture fee subsidies and operating 24-hour daycare centers, and such policies were recognized as best practices in Jeollanam-do's population policy evaluation.
