Choi Jae-won, SK Senior Vice Chairman, Joins SKT as Non-Registered Executive

Choi Jae-won, Senior Vice Chairman of SK and younger brother of Choi Tae-won, Chairman of SK Group, has joined SK Telecom as a full-time non-registered executive.

According to the Financial Supervisory Service's electronic disclosure system on the 18th, Senior Vice Chairman Choi has been serving as Vice Chairman of the SK Management & Economic Research Institute, the group's think tank, for about two months. He was appointed Senior Vice Chairman and CEO of SK On, established in 2021 through the physical division of SK Innovation's battery business, contributing to the growth of SK On's battery business. In June last year, he moved to SK Innovation, overseeing the group's energy and green businesses.

By serving as Vice Chairman of the SK Management & Economic Research Institute under SK Telecom, Vice Chairman Choi has been listed as a non-registered executive of SK Telecom. Previously, in 2022, Chairman Choi Tae-won also held the position of Chairman of SK Telecom as a non-registered executive. The market evaluates that this move could further strengthen SK Telecom in line with the group's recent focus on artificial intelligence (AI) business. Yoo Young-sang, CEO of SK Telecom, also serves as the ICT Chairman of the SK Supex Council, raising expectations that the group can respond to AI-related strategies with a more consistent approach.

SK Telecom is responsible for the group's core AI-related operations. Last November, at the 'SK AI Summit 2024' held at COEX in Seoul, the company announced plans to build an 'AI Infrastructure Super Highway' centered on three pillars: Artificial Intelligence Data Center (AI DC), Graphics Processing Unit Cloud Service (GPUaaS), and Edge AI. It is accelerating its transformation into an AI company by reorganizing its business units around AI business.
