The Ministry of Agriculture, Food and Rural Affairs announced on the 18th that it will provide up to a 40% discount support on spinach, spring cabbage (bomdong), young radish leaves (yeolmu), and young napa cabbage (eolgal-i) until the 26th to reduce the burden on consumers. The discount support for napa cabbage, radish, cabbage, and carrots, which was scheduled to end on the 19th, will be extended by one week.

Due to abnormal weather conditions, heavy snow, and cold waves continuing since last year, the prices of major winter vegetables such as napa cabbage and radish have remained high due to decreased production. Accordingly, from the 30th of last month until the 12th of this month, discount support was provided for napa cabbage and radish, and from the 13th to the 19th, discount support was extended to four items: napa cabbage, radish, cabbage, and carrots.

In particular, since napa cabbage and radish prices are expected to remain high in the future, the Ministry of Agriculture, Food and Rural Affairs decided to provide discount support from the 20th to the 26th not only for the existing four items but also for spring cabbage (bomdong), young radish leaves (yeolmu), young napa cabbage (eolgal-i), and spinach, which have recently seen high consumer prices and can serve as substitutes for napa cabbage and radish consumption.

Accordingly, from the 20th to the 26th of this month, for one week, consumers can receive up to a 40% discount?including a 20% government discount and up to a 20% retailer discount?when purchasing eight items including napa cabbage at large supermarkets, small and medium-sized supermarkets, local food direct stores, Hanaro Mart, and online malls (including traditional market online malls). The Ministry of Agriculture, Food and Rural Affairs plans to review the possibility of extending the discount period considering consumer price trends.
