Presidential Award Granted to Grand Prize Winner
The National Gugak Center announced on the 18th that it will hold the 45th Onnara Gugak Competition from April 8 to June 3.
The competition categories include 11 events: Piri, Daegeum, Haegum, Gayageum, Geomungo, Ajaeng, Jangdan and Gobeop, Jeongga, Pansori, Minyo & Gayageum Byeongchang, and Composition.
The Onnara Gugak Competition began in 1981 as the 1st National Gugak Competition and is now in its 45th year. Over the past 40 years, it has served as a gateway for talented gugak artists. The prestigious Grand Prize winner receives the Presidential Award, the Excellence Award winner receives the Prime Minister’s Award, and the first-place winners in each category receive the Minister of Culture, Sports and Tourism Award.
Anyone aged 18 or older as of the preliminary round start date, April 8, 2007 (born before April 8, 2007), can participate. However, those who have won Gold Prize or higher in this competition, holders or honorary holders of National Intangible Heritage, and transmission educators are excluded.
Those wishing to participate can apply on the National Gugak Center website from 10 a.m. on March 3 until 5 p.m. on March 7. Detailed information about the competition can be found in the announcements section on the National Gugak Center website.
