First Exchange Exhibition to Connect Cheongju, New Delhi, and Manchester in 2025

Hyundai Motor Company announced a new partnership for the joint exhibition project 'Hyundai Translocal Series' with domestic and international art institutions on the 18th.

The Hyundai Translocal Series is a new project presenting joint exhibitions through mutual cooperation among domestic and international art institutions. It was planned to create a platform where art institutions from various regions around the world can explore translocal themes and seek new possibilities in art. Through this series, Hyundai will support translocal artistic collaborations among diverse institutions over the mid to long term for the next 10 years.

The Hyundai Translocal Series exhibitions are planned to be organized in a differentiated manner that goes beyond simple traveling exhibitions, encompassing the uniqueness of each institution’s local region and the value of translocality.

Jung Eui-sun, Chairman of Hyundai Motor Group, emphasized, "Through the Hyundai Translocal Series, we will contribute to the revitalization of regional art for the sustainable development of the Korean art ecosystem," adding, "We aim to support institutions wishing to participate in new artistic practices from multiple perspectives and create a platform for translocal collaboration."

The first exchange to open the Hyundai Translocal Series will be a collaboration between the '2025 Cheongju Craft Biennale (Cheongju, Republic of Korea)' and the 'Whitworth Art Gallery (Manchester, UK).' This collaboration will focus on 'Textile Craft and Community,' featuring new commissions and research and exchange programs inviting eight artists active mainly in Korea and India, with plans to cooperate with the National Crafts Museum of India as well.

The first exchange exhibition connecting Cheongju, New Delhi, and Manchester will be showcased at the special exhibition of the 2025 Cheongju Craft Biennale, opening on September 4. The exhibition will continue at the National Crafts Museum of India in February 2026 and at the Whitworth Art Gallery in July 2026.

The second exchange institutions are the 'Nam June Paik Art Center (Yongin, Republic of Korea)' and the 'Pinacoteca Art Museum (S?o Paulo, Brazil).' Located at antipodes on the globe, these two institutions will symbolically demonstrate translocal exchange overcoming physical distance under the theme of 'Media and Performance.' Starting with preliminary research for a forum event and joint exhibition held in S?o Paulo in April and Yongin, Gyeonggi Province in May, the two institutions plan to proceed with new commissions and exhibition preparations, presenting jointly curated exhibitions sequentially from October 2026.
