"There’s a '1000 Won Bathhouse' in Seoul"… Long Lines from Dawn, and Finally

To Reduce Crowds and Waiting Times at the Popular "1000 Won Bathhouse" in Jung-gu, Seoul
March Reservations Begin on the 20th of This Month

The popular "1000 Won Bathhouse" among senior citizens in Jung-gu, Seoul, will change its registration method starting this month to improve the inconvenience of registration.

"There’s a '1000 Won Bathhouse' in Seoul"… Long Lines from Dawn, and Finally In January, the registration site for senior healthcare. Provided by Jung-gu, Seoul.

The 1000 Won Bathhouse and Senior Healthcare Center are available to residents of Jung-gu aged 65 and older who join the Yaksu Senior Welfare Center. The usage fee is 1000 won per bathhouse visit, and the health promotion room (fitness center) costs 15,000 won per month, making it affordable but highly competitive, with people lining up from early morning.

Jung-gu will change the previous first-come, first-served registration method without distinction between on-site and phone registration. Starting from March applications, registration days will be divided by gender. Women can apply from the 20th of each month, and men from the 21st.

Additionally, from April applications, phone and on-site registrations will be separated. From 9 a.m., the first 140 applicants can register by phone, and from 4 p.m., on-site registration will be available for up to 100 people.

This change aims to ease the competition for applications and reduce waiting times. As the number of users increased significantly, some seniors had to line up from early morning under the previous registration method, and some missed opportunities due to unfamiliarity with phone registration. Applications for March use will be accepted starting on the 20th. Applicants must apply monthly.

The Senior Healthcare Center in Jung-gu, which opened in December 2023, has a men's bathhouse on the first floor, a women's bathhouse on the second floor, and a health promotion room equipped with smart health devices on the third floor.

Last year, 7,367 people used the men's bathhouse, and the number of women users reached 10,073. The women's bathhouse is especially popular, with a registration rate approaching 100%. The health promotion room also received positive responses with 5,928 visitors. For detailed information about using the center, please contact the Senior Healthcare Center.

Kim Gil-seong, Mayor of Jung-gu, said, "Senior healthcare is a place like a community room where seniors can not only bathe but also take care of their health and chat." He added, "We will continue to improve operations so that seniors can use the facilities comfortably."
