Gyeonggi-do Provides Medical Expense Support to Internal Employees Victimized by Sexual Harassment

Gyeonggi Province will provide up to 500,000 KRW in medical expenses from this month for emotional stability and healing to employees who are victims of sexual harassment.

On the 18th, Gyeonggi Province announced that victims recognized by the Sexual Harassment, Sexual Violence, and Stalking Grievance Review Committee can receive medical expense support for hospital psychological counseling, examinations, and treatment costs. Applications can be made to the Gender Equality Ombudsman Support Team of the Gyeonggi Provincial Human Rights Office.

In 2023, Gyeonggi Province established a special leave system (up to 14 days) for victims of workplace sexual harassment to strengthen victim protection measures. In 2024, the province conducted the "Gyeonggi Provincial Government Sexual Harassment, Sexual Violence, and Stalking Survey" to diagnose organizational culture and seek solutions to problems.

Additionally, various educational programs such as performance-type (musical), small group discussion-type, and on-site training were conducted to improve employees' awareness and prevent workplace sexual harassment. This year, customized face-to-face training by rank will be provided to bridge generational perception gaps.

Gyeonggi Province is the only region nationwide to hire a private expert on sexual misconduct within the organization, the "Gender Equality Ombudsman," striving to create a safe workplace culture free of sexual harassment through prompt and fair investigations and victim protection.

Choi Hyun-jung, Head of the Gyeonggi Provincial Human Rights Office, stated, "Most sexual harassment victims suffer long-term mental distress and require continuous psychological counseling and treatment. This medical expense support will reduce the economic burden on victims and establish an institutional foundation for their stable return to the organization."
