Last year, the city sent welfare guidance mail to 1,200 households, of which 934 households received connections to public and private welfare services such as basic living security applications.

This year, the city plans to continue the project by signing an agreement with Gumi Post Office.

The Welfare Registered Mail Project, introduced in March 2023, operates by sending registered mail containing welfare information to households where signs of crisis are detected using a welfare blind spot discovery system.

During the delivery of registered mail, postal carriers assess the living conditions and housing environment of the households, based on which welfare officers in the eup, myeon, and dong districts provide customized counseling and support.

Considering situations where face-to-face delivery is difficult, the registered mail includes ▲ a self-diagnosis checklist for welfare blind spots ▲ information on major welfare programs ▲ Gumi City's welfare reporting channel (Gumi Hope Talk) ▲ contact information for welfare officers in eup, myeon, and dong districts, enabling households in crisis to quickly request help.

Currently, 95 postal carriers in the Gumi area have been appointed as honorary social welfare officers and are playing a frontline role in discovering welfare blind spots.

The city plans to continuously expand projects to eliminate welfare blind spots and apply for the Ministry of the Interior and Safety's 'Care Mail Service' contest in 2025 to strengthen the cooperative system with Gumi Post Office. Through this, it aims to further enhance cooperation with resident contact institutions and build a more robust welfare safety net.

Kim Jang-ho, Mayor of Gumi City, emphasized, "The Welfare Registered Mail Project has been effective in proactively identifying households in crisis and socially isolated households. We will continue to cooperate with local institutions to eliminate welfare blind spots and do our best to provide practical support to neighbors in need."
