Management Bridge at Uiam Dam Opened on Weekends Only
Over 20,000 Cyclists and 1,600 Pedestrians Used the Bridge in Three Months
Chuncheon City, Gangwon Special Self-Governing Province (Mayor Yuk Dong-han) and Korea Hydro & Nuclear Power Han River Hydropower Headquarters have found that the Uiam Dam management bridge, which was opened on weekends since last year for the convenience of cyclists and pedestrians traveling around Uiamho Lake, has received great responses from users.
According to Chuncheon City on the 17th, the Uiam Dam management bridge has been open only on weekends since July 13 last year, and from July to October, 20,618 cyclists and 1,630 pedestrians were recorded to have passed through.

The number of cyclists visiting the Bukhan River bike path has been increasing every year, but Sinyeon Bridge, which must be crossed to go around the Uiamho Lake trail, did not have bike lanes or sidewalks installed, causing significant safety concerns for users.
Therefore, Chuncheon City and Korea Hydro & Nuclear Power Han River Hydropower Headquarters opened the Uiam Dam management bridge near Sinyeon Bridge on weekends, when vehicle and bicycle traffic is heavy, to prevent collision risks between vehicles, cyclists, and pedestrians. It is not opened during winter due to safety accident concerns.
Chuncheon City and KHNP Han River Hydropower Headquarters announced that they will resume passage from 9 a.m. on March 1, expecting many cyclists and pedestrians to visit as the weather warms up.
The opening period and hours are from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. from March to June, 8 a.m. to 7 p.m. from July to September, and 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. from October to November, and it is open on weekends and public holidays.
This year, it is expected that 100,000 bicycles and 10,000 pedestrians will pass through.
Accordingly, Chuncheon City plans to assign four safety personnel around the management bridge to ensure that cyclists and pedestrians can pass safely.
Lee Cheol-gyu, Director of the Road Division of Chuncheon City, said, “Through the opening of the Uiam Dam management bridge, we will actively promote the project to eliminate safety accident risks in the Sinyeon Bridge section and provide a safe and pleasant road environment for cyclists and pedestrians.”
