"100 Million KRW Salary" and "Jaw-Dropping" Welfare Benefits Draw Attention
Krafton, the domestic game company with the highest market capitalization, is offering an unprecedented childbirth incentive of up to 100 million KRW to employees who have children. With Krafton's average employee annual salary nearing 100 million KRW as of last year, attention is also focused on this eye-catching welfare system.
According to the gaming industry on the 16th, Krafton recently shared internally a childbirth incentive policy that provides a lump sum payment of 60 million KRW to employees who give birth, followed by an annual payment of 5 million KRW for 8 years while they remain employed, totaling 100 million KRW. Krafton plans to finalize the specific payment methods soon and will notify employees additionally. This rare welfare benefit, uncommon not only among domestic game companies but also across large corporations, is known to have been led by Krafton founder Jang Byung-gyu, who served as chairman of the 4th Industrial Revolution Committee.
Last year, Krafton recorded its highest-ever performance since its founding, with sales of 2.7098 trillion KRW and operating profit of 1.1825 trillion KRW. Industry analysts say Krafton is actively strengthening employee welfare and creating a corporate environment where work and family can coexist, fueled by its strong performance. There is also hope that this childbirth incentive policy will serve as a catalyst for cultural change across the gaming industry, which is known for its intense work environment.
According to last year's business report, Krafton's average salary per employee is 98 million KRW. Along with various welfare benefits, it is called a "dream workplace." First, interest-free housing funds and loan support are provided. When employees living far away move closer to the company, Krafton supports 30 million KRW interest-free through a housing loan system. Additionally, it offers support for housing purchase funds and interest on rental deposits within a limit of 100 million KRW. The loan interest support limit may increase in the future. For social newcomers with less than two years of experience and no ties to Seoul or Gyeonggi, Krafton allows six months of free use of share houses.
Meals worth about 15,000 KRW per meal are provided free of charge at every meal. Free meals are offered not only at lunch but also at breakfast and dinner. Many employees even eat dinner at the office. Moreover, employees can take separate lunchbox menus home. At the company caf?, all drinks are available for 500 to 1,500 KRW. The company operates not only a caf? but also a bar and a game lounge where employees can enjoy games. There is also a nap room equipped with massage chairs that can be used during work hours; for example, employees can relax in the nap room after drinking beer at the office. Other benefits include mind care services for employees' mental health, daycare centers located in Pangyo and Yeoksam, and support for foreign language and self-development education expenses.
Meanwhile, major domestic companies are expanding childbirth support benefits in response to declining birth rates. The first to introduce a 100 million KRW childbirth incentive was Booyoung Group. At its 2022 opening ceremony in February last year, Booyoung paid a lump sum of 100 million KRW each to employees who gave birth since 2021, totaling 7 billion KRW. Ssangbangwool Group also provides childbirth incentives of up to 100 million KRW. Employees with more than five years of service who have children receive 30 million KRW each for the first and second child and 40 million KRW for the third child, totaling 100 million KRW. Lotte Group, in addition to its existing childbirth support policies, offers Carnival vehicles free of charge for 24 months to employees who have a third child. Afterward, employees have the option to purchase the vehicle at a price lower than the market price.
In fact, corporate childbirth incentives have proven effective in increasing birth rates. Booyoung Group announced on the 5th at its headquarters in Taepyeongno 2-ga, Jung-gu, Seoul, during the 2025 opening ceremony that it paid a total of 2.8 billion KRW in childbirth incentives to employees who gave birth last year. Twenty-eight children were born to employees last year, which is five more (21.7%) than the average number of births (23) over the three years from 2021 to 2023. The cumulative amount of childbirth incentives paid by Booyoung Group is 9.8 billion KRW.
