Passed Standing Committee... Plenary Session Vote Scheduled for the 20th
Guaranteeing Children's Rights and Easing Parental Childcare Burden
Yoon Jungmin, a member of the Seo-gu Council in Gwangju, announced on the 17th that the "Ordinance on the Establishment and Operation of Public Indoor Playgrounds in Seo-gu" passed the review of the Social and Urban Committee at the recent 328th extraordinary session.
The ordinance will be implemented after passing the plenary session of the council on the 20th and being promulgated by the head of Seo-gu District Office.
The ordinance stipulates matters related to public indoor playgrounds in Seo-gu, including ▲establishment and operation ▲usage and restrictions ▲users' obligations ▲safety management and insurance subscription ▲guidance and supervision of trustees in case of consigned operation.
Yoon, who proposed the ordinance, said, "We aim to support a happy play culture by providing children with a safe and healthy play environment," and added, "Children should be guaranteed the right to enjoy various types of play equally and safely, without social or economic constraints."
She continued, "I hope the creation of public indoor playgrounds will not only guarantee children's rights but also reduce the burden of childcare for parents and serve as a venue for community communication, thereby expanding the public role for residents' welfare. I will work closely with the Seo-gu District Office to ensure that public indoor playgrounds can be established in Seo-gu."
Meanwhile, Yoon previously proposed the establishment of public kids' cafes and the creation of 24-hour childcare services to expand public care through a 'five-minute free speech' in November last year.
