The mobile artillery system is a weapon system that significantly enhances mobility by reducing the weight of existing products and mounting them on vehicles. A representative example is the 'lightweight 105mm self-propelled gun' mounted on a small tactical vehicle. The lightweight 105mm self-propelled gun has a maximum range of about 14 km, which is longer than existing self-propelled guns. Its reduced weight also allows for air transport using large mobility helicopters. It is scheduled to be militarized after an evaluation of its 'military applicability' through military trial operations until June.
Hyundai Wia also showcased a vehicle-mounted 81mm mortar. By mounting the existing 81mm mortar on a small tactical vehicle, rapid support is enabled. The cooling time was drastically reduced from 5 minutes to 10 seconds, and the operating personnel were reduced from 5 to 3. In situations where the vehicle cannot be used, it can be separated and used in the same way as the existing 81mm mortar.
Hyundai Wia also unveiled future weapon systems based on tactical vehicles. The vehicle-mounted Anti-Drone Integrated Defense System (ADS) is a weapon system that detects, identifies, and fires at drones through lidar and optical devices. The existing ADS was developed to be mounted on both small and medium tactical vehicles. A Remote Controlled Weapon Station (RCWS) that allows firing from inside the vehicle was also introduced.
Starting with this exhibition, Hyundai Wia aims to expand exports of artillery systems to the Middle East and Africa region. A Hyundai Wia official said, "We are pleased to be able to showcase Hyundai Wia’s technological capabilities in the Middle East and Africa region for the first time," adding, "We will strive to be recognized as a competitive artillery system specialist both domestically and overseas through continuous development of mobility-based artillery systems."
