Automatic Enrollment for All Citizens
Protection Against Unexpected Accidents
Yeongju City, Gyeongbuk Province (Mayor Park Nam-seo) announced on the 17th that a total of 84 citizens received insurance payments amounting to 140 million KRW last year through the Citizen Safety Insurance operated to alleviate the economic burden caused by unexpected accidents.
The Citizen Safety Insurance is fully funded by Yeongju City, and any citizen registered in Yeongju (including registered foreigners) is automatically enrolled without a separate subscription process. It is also operated so that the insurance is automatically canceled without a separate application upon moving out.
In particular, it provides overlapping coverage regardless of other insurances and offers protection without regional restrictions on where the accident occurs, serving as a more reliable safety net for citizens.
The main coverage items of the Citizen Safety Insurance include natural disasters, drowning, explosions, fires, collapses, landslides, other deaths and permanent disabilities from injuries, injury death and permanent disabilities while using public transportation, injury death and permanent disabilities from agricultural machinery accidents, death from drowning accidents, treatment costs for injuries from school zone traffic accidents, emergency room treatment costs for dog bite injuries, deaths from social disasters, totaling 16 items.
The city plans to carry out various promotional activities in 2025 to ensure that Citizen Safety Insurance is sufficiently introduced to citizens in need.
A city official stated, “While preventing even a single safety accident is our top priority, we operate the Citizen Safety Insurance to reduce the economic burden on citizens who suffer from unforeseen accidents,” and added, “We will continue to actively promote and guide so that more citizens can benefit from the insurance.”
Insurance claims can be submitted by the affected party or their representative by faxing the relevant documents to the Citizen Safety Insurance Integrated Reception Center.
Insurance-related consultations are available at the Citizen Safety Insurance Integrated Call Center, and Yeongju City provides support for preparing claim documents and fax transmission at nearby administrative welfare centers.
