A Popular Book Covering Achievements in Marine Science and Technology,
as Well as Maritime History and Culture
The Korea Institute of Ocean Science and Technology (Director Lee Hee-seung, KIOST) and the Institute of Korean Studies at Korea University (Director Heo Eun) have planned an academic series titled "Comprehensive History of Korean Marine Science and Culture" (10 volumes in total) to promote research achievements in marine science and to inherit the historical significance achieved by the ocean and humanity. They have published the first volume, "General Theory: The Present and Future of Korean Marine Science and Culture."
Based on accumulated research achievements in the marine field, this book systematically organizes the flow of marine research from the past, present, to the future. It covers topics such as the future of the ocean, marine science and technology, marine resources, marine environment, maritime territory and policy, the ocean and ethnic culture, maritime history, maritime law, marine education, and career paths.
What makes this book particularly special is that it encompasses not only the achievements of marine science and technology but also marine history and culture, containing diverse knowledge about the ocean.
This book is expected to be used as a reference for students majoring in oceanography and humanities and social sciences, and it is available for purchase at both online and offline bookstores.
KIOST publishes various publications including the "Professional Books" series (15 volumes in total) for delivering specialized knowledge of marine science and technology, as well as the "Ocean Library Dreaming of the Future" series (50 volumes in total) and the "Science from the Sea" picture book series (2 volumes in total) to broaden understanding of marine science among youth and the general public and to inspire dreams and imagination about the sea.
