Five Road Networks in Yongin Cheoin-gu Area Included in Preliminary Feasibility Study Targets

Expansion of Transportation Network for the Semiconductor Belt Expected with New Idong-Wonsam Local Road No. 84 and Others
Lee Sang-il, Mayor: "We Will Enhance Economic and Policy Efficiency to Pass the Study"

Five road construction projects in the Cheoin-gu area of Yongin-si, Gyeonggi-do, have been largely included in the government's preliminary feasibility study.

Yongin City announced on the 17th that the five road construction projects planned by the city have been included in the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport's '6th National Road and Local Road Construction Plan' batch preliminary feasibility study target projects.

The five projects selected for the batch preliminary feasibility study are part of the eight projects the city applied for as preliminary feasibility study targets to the government in 2023. The projects under study are ▲New alternative bypass road for National Road No. 42 between Namdong and Yangji-myeon (10.4 km) ▲Expansion of Local Road No. 98 between Gorim-dong and Gwangju Docheok-dong (6.1 km) ▲New Local Road No. 84 between Idong-eup and Wonsam-myeon (12.1 km) ▲Expansion of Local Road No. 57 between Wonsam-myeon and Mapyeong-dong (12.2 km) ▲Expansion of Local Road No. 82 between Idong-eup Songjeon and Myobong-ri (1.8 km).

All the target projects are concentrated in Cheoin-gu and mostly connect to road networks around Idong and Namsa-eup's 'Advanced System Semiconductor National Industrial Complex' and Wonsam-myeon's 'Yongin Semiconductor Cluster General Industrial Complex.' If these projects are realized, they are expected to improve the relatively underdeveloped transportation network in Cheoin-gu and help expand the logistics network of the semiconductor belt.

Aside from these projects, the expansion of National Road No. 45 between Idong-eup and Namdong was excluded from this study as it is part of the Namdong?Anseong Yangseong-myeon section of the national road, which was exempted from the preliminary feasibility study last August.

However, the new Local Road No. 57 project between Mapyeong-dong and Mohyeon-eup overlaps with a private road, and the Local Road No. 82 between Yangji-myeon and Gwangju Docheok-dong was evaluated as having low feasibility, so both were excluded from the study.

The Ministry of Economy and Finance plans to collect opinions from related agencies such as the city, Seoul Regional Land Management Office, and Gyeonggi-do next month regarding the batch preliminary feasibility study projects. Afterward, a mid-term report analyzing economic and policy feasibility and a final analysis by the Korea Development Institute (KDI) will be conducted, with the decision on whether the projects pass the preliminary feasibility study expected in December this year.

The city explained that it is currently adjusting routes and project volumes to increase the benefit-cost (B/C) ratio of the target projects and plans to focus on reviewing projects with relatively high economic feasibility.

Lee Sang-il, Mayor of Yongin City, said, "With continuous population inflow and large-scale projects underway, expanding transportation infrastructure such as roads is very important for Yongin. We will actively strive to enhance economic and policy efficiency so that the five road construction projects can pass the preliminary feasibility study."
