Propose Ideas in Promising Future Industries
Focus on Project Development and Receive Workspace Support if Selected
Return to Original Department After Project Completion
Samsung Electro-Mechanics is recruiting participants for an in-house startup program that supports employees' original ideas.
According to Samsung Electro-Mechanics on the 17th, the in-house startup 'S-CUBE' is currently recruiting the 5th batch of S-CUBE, scheduled to be selected in June this year. Any employee can apply for S-CUBE. If selected for the startup, participants can focus solely on project development, leaving their main duties, and receive support such as 100 million KRW in activity funds and an independent workspace. S-CUBE symbolizes unlocking the future of Samsung Electro-Mechanics through bold and continuous challenges, like successfully matching colors after countless repetitions of the cube.
Samsung Electro-Mechanics explained that it operates S-CUBE to foster a corporate culture where employees freely express ideas and take bold challenges, thereby discovering new growth engines. Jang Deok-hyun, President of Samsung Electro-Mechanics, said, "Without challenges, there can be no achievements or new technologies. Even if you fail, let's take bold challenges," urging support for the in-house startup.
Since launching the in-house startup S-CUBE in November 2022, over 100 employees have proposed ideas, and many projects are underway. Ideas can be proposed in promising future industry fields such as automotive electronics, robotics, AI/server, and energy.
Samsung Electro-Mechanics also provides separate training for employees unfamiliar with startups. By inviting professional instructors, it supports practical education from introducing startups to writing business plans, helping employees concretize their ideas.
Samsung Electro-Mechanics selects S-CUBE participants by comprehensively considering the business feasibility and marketability of proposed ideas, solutions for problem-solving, feasibility of the items, and growth potential of the business model. After one year, at the final project presentation hosted by the CEO and executives, the business value, technological excellence, and expected effects are evaluated to decide on follow-up support such as transfer to a business division or startup creation.
On the other hand, if there is no follow-up progress such as commercialization, employees can return to their original departments, providing an environment where they can challenge themselves without burden.
An employee currently participating in S-CUBE said, "The appeal was being able to work freely in a separate organization based on an independent space and budget," adding, "I gained confidence to fully realize my ideas in a good work environment."
Yoon Hyo-jin, a professional in the New Business TF (Task Force) overseeing S-CUBE, said, "We aim to spread a creative organizational culture where employees freely express ideas and take on challenges in their work through experiencing a startup-style research culture," adding, "Each year, more employees with original ideas are taking on challenges."
Since its start in 2022, over 100 people have applied to S-CUBE, and about 40 ideas have been submitted. Among them, many teams were selected for S-CUBE and received support from the startup program; one team successfully transferred technology to a business division and entered the mass production verification stage. Two teams are enhancing technological completeness through continuous research and development.
Samsung Electro-Mechanics plans to continue discovering new business ideas from employees through the in-house startup contest. It will actively support the selected excellent ideas to be nurtured into new businesses, creating future growth engines.
