"Swift Support for Restoration and Meal Operation Costs"
The Seoul Metropolitan Office of Education announced on the 16th that it will support the restoration costs for facilities damaged by the fire at Muhak Girls' High School and provide meal operation expenses to minimize inconvenience to students. Additionally, at the start of the new semester, it plans to inspect all school facilities within the district to identify safety hazards.
On the same day, the Office of Education held an emergency meeting chaired by Superintendent Jeong Geun-sik to discuss these measures. The office stated that it will ensure normal meal service at Muhak Girls' High School during the second semester, and until then, meals will be provided through delivery service.
An official from the Office of Education said, "The exact cause of the fire will be determined after experts conduct an on-site investigation tomorrow," adding, "The building's exterior walls are finished with non-combustible materials, which prevented the fire from spreading inside and causing total destruction of the building." The official also added, "A detailed safety inspection will be conducted on the fire-damaged building, and appropriate restoration plans will be prepared based on the results."
According to the police and others, a fire broke out around 1:29 p.m. the previous day in the annex where the cafeteria is located at Muhak Girls' High School and was extinguished after about 2 hours and 20 minutes. There were no casualties, but part of the annex was destroyed, and 9 out of 11 vehicles parked on the first-floor parking lot were burned.
Separately from the police fire investigation, the Office of Education has formed a local accident response headquarters led by Superintendent Jeong, operating teams for overall situation management, accident handling, and restoration support.
