SK Discusses 'Energy Cooperation' with Vietnam... Chey Tae-won Meets with Totlum

Choi: "SK has world-class energy capabilities"
To Lam: "Deep gratitude... Korea is a leading country"

Choi Tae-won, Chairman of SK Group, met with To Lam, the top-ranking official in Vietnam, to agree on cooperation in the energy sector. They discussed ways to strengthen collaboration and plans to enhance friendship between Korea and Vietnam.


According to business circles on the 16th, on the 14th, Chairman Choi met To Lam at the Central Committee headquarters of the Communist Party in Hanoi, Vietnam. Chairman Choi said, "SK Group possesses world-class capabilities in the energy sector," adding, "Through this, we aim to contribute to the sustainable development of Vietnam's economy and promote cooperation in related fields." Attending the meeting were Choo Hyung-wook, President of SK Innovation E&S, Park Won-cheol, President of SKC, Kim Jong-hwa, President of SK Energy, and Myung Sung, President of SK Earthon.

In response, To Lam reportedly said, "We highly appreciate SK Group's achievements and deeply thank Chairman Choi and SK Group for their affection." He also emphasized, "The relationship between Vietnam and Korea is progressing smoothly in all fields," and "Korea has always been one of the leading countries in investment and trade with Vietnam."


SK Group has been promoting renewable energy and resource circulation projects in Vietnam. Since 2020, SK Innovation E&S has been operating a 131 MW solar power facility in the Ninh Thuan region of southern Vietnam and has also completed and is operating an offshore wind power plant. Additionally, SK Earthon, an energy resource development subsidiary of SK Innovation, is participating in the exploration project of the '15-2/17 block' offshore in southeastern Vietnam. In his New Year's address this year, Myung Sung, President of SK Earthon, stated, "We must achieve stable operations in exploration, development, and production businesses in Southeast Asia and make Vietnam a key business site comparable to Peru."


Following his meeting with To Lam, Chairman Choi also met with Pham Minh Chinh, the third-ranking official in Vietnam. Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh mentioned, "The comprehensive strategic partnership between the two countries is working well, and the two countries are strengthening cooperation in many fields."


On the 19th and 20th, Chairman Choi will visit Washington DC as the Chairman of the Korea Chamber of Commerce and Industry, leading a 'Trade Outreach Delegation to the U.S.' This marks the first official visit by a Korean private economic delegation to the U.S. since the inauguration of the second Trump administration.
