Establishing a Virtuous Cycle of Mentoring
Seocho-gu, Seoul (Mayor Jeon Seong-su) is recruiting outstanding local talents to serve as mentors for the 2025 ‘Seoripul Saem,’ an educational support project for vulnerable children and adolescents, until the 19th.
‘Seoripul Saem’ is a resident-participation educational welfare project first launched nationwide by Seocho-gu in 2019. It supports children and adolescents in educational blind spots by expanding the target group beyond legally low-income households to include households with median income at or below 100%.
This year, women over 19 who have experienced career breaks, former teachers, and university or graduate students related to education will participate as mentors to strengthen the one-on-one mentoring program.
In particular, through customized one-on-one mentoring in learning, culture, and emotional fields, support for learning devices to assist self-directed learning called ‘Smart Schooling,’ provision of online course vouchers and textbooks for high school students, and cultural experience activities, various educational services will be provided to help reduce the educational burden on school-age children and parents and alleviate educational polarization.
Additionally, based on the vision that ‘mentees become mentors,’ a virtuous cycle mentoring structure will be created where mentees grow to become mentors and contribute to the local community. A new ‘mentor of mentors’ activity will be established to provide senior mentors with opportunities to train and guide juniors, thereby enhancing mentors’ confidence and leadership.
Eligibility and application methods for ‘Seoripul Saem’ mentors can be found on the Seoripul Saem website. For more details, inquiries can be made to the Welfare Policy Division of Seocho-gu Office.
Mayor Jeon Seong-su stated, “We will spare no effort in providing professional mentoring education and support to mentors,” and added, “We will continue to strive to ensure the successful progress of Seoripul Saem through the participation and cooperation of the local community.”
