Chungnam Achieves Best-Ever 5th Place at National Winter Sports Festival for the Disabled Chungnam Provincial Government

The Chungcheongnam-do Sports Association for the Disabled has achieved its best-ever results at the National Winter Sports Games.

The Chungcheongnam-do Sports Association for the Disabled (President: Kim Taeheum, Governor of Chungcheongnam-do) announced that it ranked 5th overall, three places higher than last year, at the 22nd National Winter Sports Games for the Disabled, held throughout Gangwon Special Self-Governing Province from the 11th to the 14th.

The Chungcheongnam-do team participated in five events (cross-country skiing, biathlon, ice hockey, alpine skiing, and curling) with a total of 61 athletes, winning one silver medal and earning a total of 11,398 points, surpassing 10,000 points for the first time in the history of the National Winter Sports Games.

At this year's Winter Games, Chungcheongnam-do athlete Kim Youngin won a silver medal in alpine skiing in his first appearance, and the mixed wheelchair curling team advanced to the semifinals.

Despite a significant lack of winter sports infrastructure and a limited pool of athletes, Chungcheongnam-do's impressive results have raised expectations for the development of sports in the region.

Choi Jaeseop, Acting Secretary General, said, "Despite the absolute shortage of training infrastructure, our athletes dedicated themselves to intensive training, which allowed us to achieve the best results ever. I am grateful for their passion," adding, "We will do our best to support our outstanding athletes in Chungcheongnam-do so they can actively participate in winter sports and achieve even better results in the future."
