Korea International Logistics Association Holds Seminar on Development Plans for the International Logistics Industry

Calling for Greater Public Attention and Understanding
of the International Logistics Industry

The Korea International Freight Forwarders Association (KIFFA) announced on the 14th that it held the "International Logistics Industry Development Seminar" jointly with National Assembly member Lee Yang-su at the National Assembly Library Auditorium. The seminar was attended by about 300 people, including Maeng Seong-gyu, Chairman of the Land, Infrastructure and Transport Committee, Assembly members Kim Jeong-jae, Kim Eun-hye, Eom Tae-young, Lee In-seon, Jo Jeong-hoon, Im Jong-deuk, as well as representatives from related organizations and the international logistics industry.


In the keynote speech, Kim Byung-jun, Chairman of the International Logistics Development Advisory Committee, stated, "There is a need for a high-level decision-making body where related ministries can regularly consult and decide on logistics-related policies. Either a committee directly under the President or at least a Prime Minister’s committee should be established," adding, "Logistics is at the center of the nation's growth and progress."

The seminar presentations included: ▲ Professor Han Jong-gil of the Global Logistics Department at Sungkyul University presenting "Analysis of Global Supply Chain Market Trends and Improvement Plans for the International Logistics Industry," ▲ Professor Kim In-hyun, Director of the Maritime Law Research Center at Korea University, presenting "Legislative Measures to Establish the Status of Freight Forwarders as Transport Operators," and ▲ Professor Kim Young-joo of the Trade Department at Pusan National University presenting "Institutional Improvement Plans for Fostering the International Logistics Industry." Following each presentation, comprehensive discussions were held with experts from the Ministry of Oceans and Fisheries, academia, and industry representatives.


Won Je-cheol, Chairman of KIFFA, said, "National competitiveness can be evaluated by various factors, but especially in this era, the capability of the logistics industry is the most important indicator. Considering the structure of our economy, international logistics industries and related companies must be prioritized as protected and nurtured industries," adding, "I hope that through this seminar, a blueprint for the future logistics industry will be drawn and in-depth discussions for its realization will take place. The future of the international logistics industry will become even brighter."


Meanwhile, KIFFA plans to continue urging interest in strengthening competitiveness considering the importance of the international logistics industry through regular forums and seminars, and will continuously seek policy unification for industrial development, fostering of international logistics professionals, and support measures for overseas expansion of international logistics companies.
