Suwon Mayor Lee Jae-jun Opens 'Saebit Field Office' at Gwanggyosan to Inspect Wildfire Response and More

On the 13th, Lee Jae-jun, Mayor of Suwon, opened the ‘Saebit On-site Mayor’s Office’ at Gwanggyosan Mountain in Suwon and inspected the wildfire response system.

Mayor Lee visited the wildfire monitoring post in Pajang-dong, Jangan-gu, to check the response system and encourage the wildfire monitors. He said, "I thank all the wildfire monitors who play an important role in preventing wildfires in this cold weather," and emphasized, "Not only the wildfire monitors but also the local community, public officials, and citizens must work together to prevent wildfires."

He added, "Gwanggyosan Mountain attracts 15 million visitors annually, and Chilbosan Mountain sees 12 million visitors, so there are many hikers," and continued, "Since it is impossible to control all those people individually, we must actively promote wildfire prevention rules to the hikers."

Suwon City will operate the ‘2025 Spring Wildfire Prevention Comprehensive Countermeasures Headquarters’ until May 15, managed by the Park and Greenery Office and the park and greenery departments of four districts. The headquarters employs 199 people, including public officials and wildfire monitors. From March 15 to April 15, a ‘Special Large Wildfire Countermeasure Period’ will be in effect.

Suwon City is utilizing advanced technology for wildfire response. In case of a wildfire, it plans to use an intelligent wildfire prevention ICT (Information and Communication Technology) platform to initiate initial firefighting within the golden time of 30 minutes.

Twenty-two intelligent wildfire monitoring cameras using artificial intelligence (AI) (18 in Gwanggyosan, 4 in Chilbosan) detect wildfires 24 hours a day, and when a wildfire is detected, a text message is immediately sent to the person in charge.

After inspecting the wildfire response system, Mayor Lee visited the Suwon City Specialized Nursing Home for the Elderly (Pajang-dong) to check the facility status and extend New Year greetings to the elderly residents.

The Suwon City Specialized Nursing Home for the Elderly houses 145 elderly residents who have been assessed with long-term care grades (levels 1 to 5) due to geriatric diseases. It is operated under consignment by the Won-Buddhist Changpil Foundation, a social welfare corporation.

Mayor Lee held a meeting with Kim Young-gi, Director of the Suwon City Specialized Nursing Home for the Elderly, and others to listen to their suggestions.
