Expectations for Diverse and Effective Policy Proposals with Participation from Various Professions Including Professionals, Entrepreneurs, and Artists
Gwanak-gu, Korea’s first youth-friendly city (Mayor Park Junhee), appointed the 6th Gwanak Youth Network representing the voices of Gwanak youth and held a regular meeting on the 12th.
The ‘Gwanak Youth Network’ is an official youth governance platform operating in a district where youth make up 41.4% of the total population.
Having contributed to reflecting youth opinions across district administration, the Gwanak Youth Network proposed a total of 35 policies over the past five years, 21 of which have been realized as actual district policies.
The newly appointed 6th committee members consist of various professions including ▲professionals (30%) ▲self-employed and entrepreneurs (27%) ▲culture and arts workers (20%). The gender ratio is 18 males (60%) and 12 females (40%), with the largest age group being 30-34 years old at 14 members (46%).
They are scheduled to begin full-scale activities starting in March after systematic training such as capacity-building workshops and policy living labs.
The Gwanak Youth Network operates in four divisions: ▲jobs and startups ▲culture and arts ▲social safety and housing ▲environment and human rights.
Each division holds regular meetings once or twice a month to discover policies from the youth perspective and monitor district-related projects overall.
They also plan to continue practical policy participation activities such as operating youth policy forums and drafting policy proposals.
On the 11th, the district was designated as the nation’s first ‘Youth-Friendly City’ by the Prime Minister’s Office, receiving a total of 1 billion KRW in project funds over five years, along with various administrative and financial support including education and consulting to strengthen youth policy development capabilities.
Additionally, the district is conducting the ‘Gwanak-gu Youth-Friendly City Advancement Strategy Project’ to establish a five-year plan for the youth-friendly city and to discover effective projects necessary for youth independence and settlement.
Mayor Park Junhee said, “Through the Gwanak Youth Network as a medium, we will gather valuable proposals from youth and work together to create a future Gwanak where young people want to stay.”
Dobong-gu and Dobong Career and Job Experience Support Center Promote Career and Job Programs
Eight Areas Including ‘Career and Job Experience,’ ‘Ontact,’ and ‘4th Industrial Revolution Career Experience’
‘Our Neighborhood Playground’ Program Highlighting Job Characteristics Receives High Praise
Dobong-gu (Mayor Oh Eon-seok) is receiving great responses for its career and job programs promoted in collaboration with local centers and schools.
A satisfaction survey conducted last year among participants showed an overall satisfaction rate of 93.9% for the programs.
The success was due to the district providing human and material resources, the Dobong Career and Job Experience Support Center (Kkumyeoul) planning quality programs, and schools facilitating student participation and conducting demand and satisfaction surveys.
The career and job programs are broadly divided into eight areas including ▲career and job experience ▲ontact ▲4th industrial revolution career experience. Among these, the ‘Our Neighborhood Playground’ career and job experience program was the most hands-on and received strong support from participants.
‘Our Neighborhood Playground’ is a play program linked with the local community workplaces, highlighting the characteristics of each job sector. It offers various job experience activities and opportunities for peer youth to freely visit workplaces, gaining great popularity.
This year, the program will continue with three fields: cultural and artistic workplaces (Emotional Playground), 4th industrial revolution workplaces (Creative Playground), and environmental education workplaces (Nature Playground). Seven new courses including barista, magician, and special makeup artist have been added to the cultural and artistic workplace field. Two new courses including outdoor education experts have been added to the environmental education workplace field.
There are many other diverse career and job programs such as ‘Healing in the Concert,’ a concert-style program to learn about jobs; ‘ON Job,’ a real-time career counseling program; and ‘Kkumyeoul Job Experience,’ which explores job practices in depth.
Mayor Oh Eon-seok of Dobong-gu said, “Many job experience activities are necessary to help youth form diverse career perspectives. We will continue to operate career and job programs with the center so that youth can discover their aptitudes and interests through various experiences.”
