Hong Nam-pyo Directly Oversees and Reviews
Key National Fund Project Strategies for Changwon Special City
"We must make every effort to secure national funds to create visible changes that citizens can feel."
On the 13th, Hong Nam-pyo, Mayor of Changwon Special City, Gyeongnam, emphasized this during the "2026 National Fund Securing Project Discovery Report Meeting."
At the meeting, Mayor Hong also urged to find future innovation projects that will elevate Changwon City to a "Northeast Asia central city," and projects that will add convenience and safety to citizens' lives in a reliable and proper manner.
The meeting involved reports on a total of 141 projects (with a 2026 national fund application amount of 1.0052 trillion KRW) from department heads, followed by a strategic meeting for securing national funds.
According to Changwon Special City, the detailed status of projects is as follows: ▲ 17 new projects worth 39.9 billion KRW ▲ 14 contest projects worth 40.2 billion KRW ▲ 110 ongoing projects worth 925.1 billion KRW. By sector: ▲ Industry and economy 33 projects worth 253.7 billion KRW ▲ Agriculture, forestry, marine, and fisheries 15 projects worth 21.5 billion KRW ▲ Construction and transportation 18 projects worth 424.4 billion KRW ▲ Culture and tourism 14 projects worth 33 billion KRW ▲ Environment and forestry 34 projects worth 126.6 billion KRW ▲ Safety and others 27 projects worth 146 billion KRW.
Major new and contest projects include ▲ Establishment of Changwon AI Autonomous Manufacturing Dedicated Support Center ▲ Support for carbon regulation response of export companies in industrial complexes based on DPP ▲ Innovation Academy (Gyeongnam National University) ▲ Establishment of AI Big Data-based Innovative Medical Device and Medical Robot Demonstration Center ▲ Creation of a culture-leading industrial complex in Changwon National Industrial Complex ▲ Maintenance project for steep slope collapse risk area in Palyong District ▲ Maintenance project for natural disaster risk improvement area in Angol District ▲ Restoration project of urban ecological axis in Gaeumjeong Park ▲ Sediment pollution cleanup project in the inner harbor area of Masan Port ▲ Corporate Environmental Leader Academy project.
The city plans to develop response logic aligned with the government's supplementary budget direction to ensure maximum reflection of projects that were not included last year during the government supplementary budget, and to pursue a two-track strategy to include projects requiring national funds for next year in the government budget proposal.
Additionally, as the amount of national funds secured increases, the city’s financial burden will also grow, so the city decided to focus on quality over quantity through "selection and concentration," securing projects that are practically necessary for the city.
In this regard, the city will respond step-by-step according to the national fiscal management plan and the central government’s budget formulation schedule, and will strengthen the "one-team system" centered on the Planning and Coordination Office and the External Policy Officer, along with central government officials from the region and local members of the National Assembly, to proceed in an organized and strategic manner.
Mayor Hong Nam-pyo said, "Since the launch of the 8th elected administration, it is time to turn the solid administrative foundation built under the five major city administration strategies into the citizens’ expectations becoming reality."
